We value the time and effort that you put into your submission. We want you to know what to expect when you make a submission to Res Philosophica. We aim to make an initial decision on all unsolicited submissions within eight weeks.
Upon submission you will get an automated message thanking you for your submission. The editorial team will begin the review process immediately.
After checking to make sure the submission has been appropriately anonymized, the Editorial Manager forwards the submission to the Editor, minus any identifying information. The Editor then begins the desk review process, to determine whether the paper should be sent out for external review. If the paper is rejected at the desk review stage, we aim to make that decision within three weeks. (Even after rejection, authorial information on the submission will not be passed on to the Editor.)
If the submission is sent out for external review, you will receive a brief note from the Editorial Manager, thanking you and informing you that we have begun the external review.
If you have not heard from us (other than the automated message) within three weeks, please feel free to inquire about the status of your submission with the Editorial Coordinator. (Please do not contact the Editor, so that we can ensure the anonymity of the review process.)
We give referees the option of a quick rejection with few comments, if the paper warrants it. Otherwise, we ask the referees to submit a report within four weeks. All reports are sent along to the author without edit, including what each referee recommended. (We do not send any comments marked as for the Editor only.)
If your paper is under external review and you have not heard from us within eight weeks of the initial submission, please feel free to inquire about the status of your submission with the Editorial Coordinator. (Please do not contact the Editor, so that we can ensure the anonymity of the review process.)
If the decision is revise and resubmit, we ask for as quick a turn around as is reasonable. We ask for a brief explanation of changes that were made. We strive to use the same referees to review the revised submission, and we ask our referees to submit their report within two weeks of receipt of the revised submission.
If your paper is accepted, we move to the typesetting process. If your paper needs style formatting, we ask for those formatting changes as soon as is reasonable. We aim to get the proofs to you within two weeks of receipt of the final, correctly formatted submission. And we ask for as quick a turn around on corrections as is reasonable.
Authors receive a PDF of the published version of their article, and one hard copy of the issue in which it appears. (The copyright policy is located here.)
